Pros:
Acer Aspire 4750Z is an awesome budget laptop (21,600 INR on 1st Oct 2011) with all the necessary hardware features. This laptop is unique-as it has a latest Pentium dual core processor B940 (http://t.co/tGHhaH0G) launched in June 2011 by Intel.
Triple booting Win XP SP2 32 bit,Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit(Windows Experience Index out of 7.9 :
Processor – 5.8
RAM – 5.5
Graphics – 4.6
Gaming Graphics – 5.9
Primary hard disk -5.8
) and Ubuntu Linux worked as a charm.
The processor doesn’t heat at all ,battery backup of 3+ hrs(though in specifications it is mentioned 4.5 hrs).
Con:
In built speaker is poor(to watch movies, have to use VLC (Equalizer-Live)
Tips:
1>Change SATA controller to IDE from AHCI in BIOS settings (F2 while booting up) before installing any OS
2>Windows 7 drivers are there in CD supplied or here.
Almost all device drivers for Windows 7 is backward compatible for Windows XP too(use device manger>update driver>browse for driver files,in case of any problem).Only Graphics driver isnt compatible.
Download the following Graphics driver for XP:
http://t.co/yfY8o2rQ (Lenovo VGA driver-compatible with Acer’s)
3>To boost volume on win 7(on XP it is somewhat fine):
Right click on the speaker icon in the task bar and select Playback Devices .The Sound dialog box opens up- From the Playback tab select the Playback device >Properties>Speaker Properties>Enhancements tab Disable All Sound Effects
Also use VLC (Equalizer-Live)
So this one is cheap though power buy!
Available on Flipkart .

Hey Zulkifli,
Have you in any case gotten the ethernet and network controller drivers? I am really stuck, I am only able to use a dongle to access internet.

Andrew,
I installed 2 windows (XP & 7) in my Acer 4750Z using the driver from the cd and also driver from the link given by Sunny22 for VGA for XP (Lenovo) and currently works fine. The problem is the wifi for both windows not so powerful enough.

Hi everyone,
For installing drivers on XP ,use the Win7 drivers for all..except the VGA/Graphics.(use Lenovo’s driver-i have given the link in the post above).
For LAN drivers or any other drivers which is not getting installed(except VGA/Graphics):
Open device manager>>right click on the yellow ! marked>>browse the content of the driver cd..it will be done.

Hi friend,
Actually, all worked but for the wifi (Atheros ARB97) driver the signal strength in XP not so good compared to W7, left only 1 or 2 bars once away a bit far from the router but doing well if closer.

Hi ,
You can install ubuntu from Windows only:
Just download from following the WUBI(2.3 MB):
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/windows-installer
Then it will automatically download the required Ubuntu files.
(for details read the step 1,2,3-of the link above)

i wish i would have known that 3 days earlier… i think i f*cked up my laptop… tried to install ubuntu (oneiric ocelot) besiedes windows on my laptop … live-cd worked well, but after the installation windows startet to pop up error messages, so i made another install, this time linux as the only system. now i only get blackscreen and it seems the recovery partition is gone as well
(sorry for my bad english)
any way to get linux running now with windows gone? my backup doesnt help much without the recovery… and i am no fan of windows to begin with
December 15, 2011 at 7:29 am
Hi TeddyXG,
You can do a fresh installation of Linux-as you told your Windows is gone now.
Use the live cd to use the whole hard disk.to install Ubuntu-it should work.
If not ..i suppose you have to Change SATA controller to IDE from AHCI in BIOS settings (F2 while booting up) .
